SPEAKING

I enjoy doing public programs for libraries and book clubs as well as bookstore events and conferences. I am also available for writing-related workshops, including "hands-on" programs. See my Events page for recent examples of both.

Program topics include any of the books from the Jade series, plus: Women of Africa, Safaris of the Past, Researching for History, or The Era and Story of Jade. I am always open to suggestions to meet your needs.

Writing workshop topics (lecture or hands-on writing) include:

• I've never been to Spain, but I kinda like the music: Researching places distant in location or in time.
• Being there: Employing the five senses to build the scene.
• Developing characters through dialogue.
• Developing characters from scratch: Putting together careers, character traits, and more.
• Building suspense in the story.
• Researching in old publications: How to milk newspapers or magazines for all they are worth.
